Neighbourhood Guide: Things to Do in Yaletown

Vancouver's Yaletown Neighbourhood | Smithe House

Once a bustling warehouse district along Vancouver’s industrial waterfront, Yaletown has transformed into one of the city’s most stylish and sought-after neighbourhoods. Converted lofts, cobblestone promenades, and an impressive lineup of restaurants, cocktail bars, and fitness studios, Yaletown strikes the perfect balance between relaxed west coast and upscale urban living. And with everything you need within walking distance, Yaletown makes the perfect home base for a short or long stay in the city.

Here are some of our team’s favourite things to do in Yaletown.

Start strong: Morning workout & a well-earned treat

It’s the ultimate Yaletown routine. Here, mornings tend to start with a little movement – and you’ve got options. The False Creek stretch of Vancouver Seawall is seriously underrated, with paved paths, perfect waterfront views and a route that takes you past public art installations and city attractions. Go at your own pace, or join the Smithe House Run Club on Thursday mornings for a trainer-led route around the marina.

If fitness classes are more your speed, Jaybird’s low-impact mat classes combine free-flowing movements with mindful meditation, while a spin class at Ride Cycle Club is guaranteed to get you feeling the burn, and the energy.

Post-sweat, reward yourself accordingly. Small Victory Bakery for a coffee and breakfast pastry with a view of the marina, or Chez Nous for a perfectly flaky croissant. No wrong moves here.

Pasta, patio pounders & people watching at Dovetail

If there’s one thing locals love, it’s a Yaletown patio. Perfect for people watching, patio pounders, and house-made pastas, “Happy Days” at Dovetail runs from 11am to 5pm and is exactly what it sounds like: daytime drinks, share plates, and a space to lounge around and let the day go by. Order one of their pastas and discover pasta shapes you’ve never even heard of.

Pro-tip: If you miss the Happy Days special, Martini Hour keeps the patio vibes strong from 5pm to 6pm.

A little retail therapy

At the heart of Yaletown is Mainland and Hamilton, two streets lined on either side with independent boutiques. Take a little shopping detour and browse a curated collection of timeless staples and statement pieces from sustainable designer brands at Fine Finds Boutique or West of Woodward. Or if you’re in the market for denim, Brooklyn Clothing Co is a long-standing local favourite for quality jeans that has been around since 2003.

Enjoy the sprawling greenspace at David Lam Park

Being able to enjoy the outdoors without even leaving the neighbourhood is one of the perks of staying in Yaletown. David Lam Park is a local hotspot with open green space, waterfront views, and a steady stream of locals walking dogs, throwing a frisbee, or simply relaxing in the sunshine. Grab something to-go from Aburi Market and post up for an impromptu picnic on the grass, or pack your racquets for a quick match on the tennis courts.

If you’re lucky enough to visit in March or April, don’t miss the fleeting days when the trees bloom pink with cherry blossoms.

Cocktails & charcuterie at Bartholomew

Into the night, seek out Bartholomew, a sophisticated cocktail bar with sleek, industrial interiors tucked in the heart of the neighbourhood. Known for their creative twists on cocktail classics, Bartholomew’s Smoked Old Fashion is a true standout – and our team once had a toasted marshmallow mule that they still think about. Don’t forget to try their house-made charcuterie.

The dinner dilemma

Between Michelin recommended eateries and long-standing institutions, the restaurant scene in Yaletown is second to none. Book a table at Homer St Cafe, a contemporary French bistro, and find out for yourself the signature rotisserie chicken that has the whole city talking, while Social Corner has perfected an epic burger that just might be worth the price tag.

A modern steakhouse that knows what it’s doing, Elisa’s flame-grilled steaks are always a top contender – especially when you consider their impressive wine and cocktail program to pair. And Blue Water Cafe has been the city’s go-to for premium seafood for over 25 years. You’re going to want to put aside some time to study the menus.
